Obverse
The obverse side of the 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Coin comes with a left-profile effigy of Lady Liberty. This classic bust of Liberty was designed in 1878 by George T. Morgan and shows Liberty with a Phrygian cap on the back of her head, as well as a coronet crown and laurel wreath. The field offers 13 stars with inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date mark of 1885.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, you will find the historic heraldic eagle design from Morgan. This image shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with spread wings. There is no US national shield, but the bird is clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.
History
The 1885 release of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins at the Carson City Mint was historic for two reasons. First, this was the final issue of the coins before the 1886-1888 halt in production at Carson City. More importantly, this release had the smallest initial mintage of any date mark from Carson City.
