The 1885 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin holds a special place in American coin history. This iconic coin, minted at the Philadelphia Mint, is now available for collectors at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 1885 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are in Mint State 65 condition, and they come in NGC plastic slabs, displaying a high-quality mint luster. It’s important to note that there may be minor contact marks, hairlines, and light scuff marks on these coins.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1885 Morgan Dollar features a graceful portrayal of Lady Liberty. She’s depicted in a left-profile view with a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, a laurel wreath in her hair, 13 stars, and a date mark. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1885.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1885 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, you’ll find the heraldic eagle, an iconic design crafted by George T. Morgan. The eagle is presented with outstretched wings, clutching arrows of war and an olive branch of peace. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
In 1885, the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was struck by four mints. This included coins issued by the Philadelphia Mint, New Orleans Mint, San Francisco Mint, and the Carson City Mint. This date mark was the last for the Carson City Mint, among the four, until 1889.
