Coin Highlights:
These 1885-O Morgan Dollar Coins can be purchased at the click of a mouse and delivered straight to your door. Upon arrival, you will find your coin housed in a protective NGC slab. In addition to preserving their Mint State condition, these slabs also include a label bearing the official grading details.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is shown in a portrait on the obverse of 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars. Presented in left-profile relief, this effigy shows Liberty wearing a classic Phrygian cap along with a crown of wheat. The word LIBERTY is inscribed on a band across her head as well. There are also inscriptions on the field reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1885.
Reverse
An American bald eagle features on the reverse of these Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. This graceful rendition is also credited to George T. Morgan, who opted for a more naturalistic style when designing the motif. The reverse field also contains the New Orleans mintmark along with inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.
History
The Morgan Silver Dollar is notable for several reasons. First of all, is the portrait of Lady Liberty by designer George T. Morgan. While most prior depictions of Ms. Liberty were inspired by classical Greek art, Morgan instead drew his inspiration from an actual American woman, Anna Willess Williams of Philadelphia. Also, Morgan studied real-life bald eagles for his reverse motif. The result is a more naturalistic rendition compared to its predecessor on the Seated Liberty Dollar.
