Obverse
The obverse of this 1901 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin showcases Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty design, an iconic representation featuring Liberty in left-profile relief adorned with a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars. Inscriptions include 1901, and LIBERTY.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1901 $10 Liberty Gold Coin, you’ll find a heraldic eagle design, a symbol of American strength and resilience. The reverse design was altered in 1866 to include the motto “In God We Trust.” The eagle, wings spread wide, holds a shield, an olive branch, and three arrows in its talons. Surrounding the image are identifying marks of the coin. Inscriptions read IN GOD WE TRUST, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and TEN D.
History
The $10 Eagle Gold Coin, a symbol of American heritage, was minted by the United States Mint from 1795 to 1933. Over its history, it underwent several design changes, but the Liberty design by Christian Gobrecht, used from 1838 to 1907, remains the most cherished.
