In 1908, a significant change was made to the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Series with the inclusion of the national motto, “In God We Trust,” following public demand after the initial 1907 release without the motto.

The obverse of the 1908 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin presents Liberty in exquisite detail, holding a torch and an olive branch. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1908.

On the reverse of the 1908 Pre-33 $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Coin, an American bald eagle soars proudly over the rising sun. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TWENTY DOLLARS.

The Double Eagle went through a number of alterations in its early years following the 1907 debut of the Saint-Gaudens design. The original strikes in 1907 featured a high-relief strike, but the US Mint found high-relief strikes unreliable for circulation production volumes. In 1908, large volumes of the coins were produced before the eventual decision to add the national motto on the reverse.

This 1908 Pre-33 $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin boasts a Mint State 64 grade, signifying average luster with some contact marks consistent with its age and circulation. Certified by CMQ, this coin has undergone rigorous evaluation to ensure its quality and authenticity, making it a valuable addition to any collection or investment portfolio.
