He was the Emperor of the Austrian Empire from 1848 until its merge with the Kingdom of Hungary, at which point he held dual titles as the Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Reverse

Austrian 20 Corona Gold Coins bear the Imperial crest of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The double-headed, crowned eagle is based on the coat of arms for the Hapsburg Dynasty, the founding family of the Austrian Empire. The eagle bears the coat of arms of the empire on its chest with a sword in one talon and a globe in the other.

History

The Austro-Hungarian Empire adopted the gold standard in 1892 and began issuing its Corona Gold coins with a standardized weight and .900 gold content across various denominations that included 20, 40, and 100 Corona. The original Austrian 20 Corona Gold Coins were produced from 1909 to 1916. These 1915 Austrian 20 Corona Gold Coins are actually restrikes produced by the Austrian Mint in the 1970s with a 1915 date mark on the reverse.
