One of the largest denominations ever issued in the Federal Reserve Note Series was the $500 note. Introduced with the 1918 Series, the note was redesigned only once in 1934. The 1934 Series was the final version of the note and remained in circulation until 1969 when the $500 note and other large denominations were canceled. Today, you have the opportunity to get 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Notes online at Provident Metals in certified condition.

The Federal Reserve Notes were introduced into circulation with the 1914 Series and the 1918 Series. The 1914 Series featured denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. While those denominations are still commonly in circulation today, the 1918 Series notes are not in circulation. The 1918 Series offered $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 notes. These notes were redesigned in 1934 and were largely used in transactions between banks, rather than by Americans in everyday transactions.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Note is a depiction of President William McKinley. This portrait of President McKinley was added to the notes with the 1934 Series redesign. President McKinley won back-to-back terms in office in the 1896 and 1900 elections, but was assassinated in office in September 1901, just nine months into his second term.

Reverse

The reverse side of 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Notes comes with notations of the denomination. On this side of the note, there are countless notations of 500, indicating the face value assigned to the notes. You will also find THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS on this side of the note.

History

The $500 denomination was predominantly held within banks. The Treasury decided to remove the $500 denomination and the other larger denominations of Federal Reserve Notes in the 1960s. The $500 bill was removed from circulation starting in 1969. Estimates put the number of remaining specimens from the 1934 Series of $500 Federal Reserve Notes at around 75,000 in total.

Ordering

1934 $500 Federal Reserve Notes in this listing come with a Very Fine 35 grade from the PMG.
