The 1953 five pesos coin celebrates Miguel Hidalgo’s 200th birthday. These coins, in very fine condition or better, have an actual silver weight of .6430 troy ounces.
The special edition 5 pesos coins from 1953 includes a portrait of Hidalgo in front of his beloved church in Dolores, Guanajuato, Mexico, where he gave the famous “Cry of Dolores” speech that sparked the Mexican Revolution. The inscription includes “Ano De Hidalgo,” (Year of Hidalgo) and the years 1753 and 1953.
The reverse includes the Mexican Coat of Arms, with “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” on the upper rim, “27 ? G” and Ley 0.720″ in fine print, and “Cinco Pesos,” the Mexico City Mint mark, and the year 1953.
