One of the longest-running collectible options from the United States Mint is the annual Proof Set. In 1963, the US Mint Proof Set was a notable release for its inclusion of the last Franklin Half Dollars struck by the US Mint before the switch to the Kennedy Half Dollar design in 1964. Provident Metals currently offers the 1963 US Mint Proof Set to you for purchase online.

When you purchase a 1963 US Mint Proof Set at Provident Metals, you have the unique chance to own a set produced nearly 60 years ago. The US Mint packages these five coins inside of sealed pouches connected together in a single sheet. The sheet of coins arrives in a manila envelope from the United States Mint. This envelope packaging was designed to delay tarnishing and discoloration of the coins. The set includes a total of five coins, each one with a 1963 date mark and proof visuals. The proof strike delivers frosted designs and mirrored fields. Each set includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Designs

The 1963 US Mint Proof Set comes with a US penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half dollar. The penny features an effigy of President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, while the nickel depicts President Thomas Jefferson on the obverse. The dime and quarter feature effigies of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President George Washington, respectively.

The most important coin in this 1963 US Mint Proof Set is the 1963 Franklin Half Dollar. On the obverse side is a right-profile portrait of Founding Father and early American diplomat, Benjamin Franklin. This effigy of Franklin debuted on the half dollar in 1948 and was struck for the last time in 1963. The reverse field of the coin comes with an image of the Liberty Bell at the center, with a small heraldic eagle on the right.

History

1963 US Mint Proof Sets contain a total of .6148 Troy oz of actual silver content. The US Dime, US Quarter, and the US Half Dollar in this set contain 90% silver and 10% copper content. While the total issue of more than 3 million of these sets seems high, in the modern era the US Mint strikes more than 3 million coins per denomination of US currency each day!
