In 1987, the 1/2 oz gold coin was introduced and in 1988 the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins were introduced. The 1986 1 oz gold coin has the highest mintage in the history of the Proof American Eagle Gold Coin Series, while these 1987-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins have the second-highest mintage in the history of the series.
