Reverse

On the reverse field of 1996 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find the 1986 design of a family of bald eagles. Developed by Miley Busiek, this design has been exclusive to the American Eagle Gold Series since its release. It features a male bald eagle soaring over the nest with an olive branch in its talons. History

The low mintage in 1996 marked a temporary downturn in demand for the coins. In 1997, the 1/4 oz gold coin, as well as the other weights, would see a dramatic uptick in demand during the Y2K crisis. Just three years later in 1999, the 1/4 oz coin would hit its second-highest mintage at 564,232.
