Most of the 1990s saw the American Eagle Silver Coins experience demand that was, on average, much lower than the late 1980s following the initial release of the coins. Today, you have the chance to get 1998 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals in near-perfect condition.

With fears over Y2K and a slowing global economy, demand for the American Eagle Silver Coin and other silver bullion products moved upward. The 1998 coin had the highest mintage in the 1990s since the 1993 release of the coin. The mintage figure rose from 4.295 million in 1997 to 4.847 million coins in 1998.

Obverse

Walking Liberty is featured on the obverse of all 1998 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This design was created for the US Mint in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. The image was developed for use on American coins and featured on the US half dollar silver coin from 1916 to 1947. It was revived and modernized in 1986 for use on the American Eagle 1 oz Silver bullion coins from the United States Mint.

Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States is a design as old as the US Mint itself and features on the reverse side of 1998 American Eagle Silver Coins. The first version of the emblem was developed in 1792 and released on the first American coins in 1794/1795. This version was modernized by John Mercanti and features on various American denominations in addition to the American Eagle Silver Coins.

History

American Eagle Silver Coins are now the best-selling silver coins in the world. While the 1990s experienced largely depressed demand, the American Silver Eagle experienced unprecedented highs in demand in the late 2000s and through the 2010s. For example, between 2011 and 2015, the American Eagle Silver Coin had a mintage in excess of 40 million coins annually every year but one. The record is 47 million in 2015.
