Each limited-edition coin contains 1 ounce of .9999 pure silver, and was minted in celebration of the turn of the new millennium. These coins are now quite rare.
The reverse of each Millennium Privy Silver Maple features a highly detailed five-point maple leaf — the national symbol of Canada.
To the left and right of the leaf are the inscriptions 9999. There is a small oval privy mark to the bottom right of the leaf, featuring three exploding New Year’s Eve fireworks. The reverse also reads CANADA and FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.
The obverse of each Millennium Privy Maple includes the portrait of a mature Queen Elizabeth donning an elaborate crown and pearl jewelry. It is inscribed with the words ELIZABETH II overhead and 1999 5 DOLLARS 2000 below.
Fun Fact: the Canadian Maple Leaf Coin does not depict a leaf from one specific tree species. Instead, the design is a composite of the 10 maple species native to Canada. Every county in the nation has at least one of the species native to the area.
