Each 1999 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin offered here comes in a protective plastic flip. These coins enjoyed intense demand in the midst of the Y2K crisis, and as such, saw an increase in demand to what remains record high, as of 2023.

Obverse

On the obverse, the timeless depiction of Lady Liberty by Augustus Saint-Gaudens captivates. Originally created in 1907 for an ultra-high-relief coin, this design became the nation’s greatest of all time, anchoring the $20 Gold Double Eagle until 1933.

Reverse

The reverse, exclusively designed for the Gold Eagle collection by Miley Busiek, portrays an American bald eagle family in its nest. With a male flying overhead and a female guarding a group of hatchlings, this unique design adds to the allure of the American Gold Eagle.

History

The year 1999 holds historical significance for the American Gold Eagle, marking its 14th release and achieving the highest mintage level in its 30-year history. Notably, during this period, the 1/10 oz coin gained popularity, surpassing the sales of the 1 oz coin, making it the preferred choice for average investors amid the DotCom boom and Y2K concerns.
