Design

Both sides of the 2 oz Silver Sun Stone Stacker showcase the enigmatic sun stone design. It replicates the exact artwork found in 1790, with the central image believed to depict the face of the solar deity, Tonatiuh, encased in the symbol of movement, known as llin. Surrounding the central ring are 20 glyphs representing the 20 days of the Aztec calendar, and the border features two fire serpents. It also displays four blocks and four arrows symbolizing the previous eras and cardinal directions, respectively. Inscriptions such as the metal weight and purity are inscribed on the edge of the stacker.

History

The Aztec sun stone, believed to have been carved between 1502-1520, remained hidden until its discovery in 1790 during repairs to the Mexico City Cathedral. It has since become a symbol of Mexican heritage, gracing currency, football jerseys, and even Elvis Presley’s TV performances. Its currently on display at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.
