For just the second time in history, the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin surpassed the 10 million mark in a given date with the 2002 release. The only previous issue to surpass this mark was the 1987 coin that sold a total of 11.442 million coins. This made 2002 one of the highest minted coins through the first 20 years of the series. Provident Metals now offers near-perfect 2002 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins to you for purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic slab courtesy of the PCGS!
  • 17th available coin in the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin series!
  • Limited number of certified near-perfect silver coins available!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the government of the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 69 from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Walking Liberty on the obverse of the coins.
  • Heraldic eagle on the reverse of the coins.

When you purchase a 2002 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin in this product listing, you will receive a coin with a near-perfect certification from the PCGS. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and limited in scope to the areas outside of the primary focal points of the coin.

Obverse

Walking Liberty features on the obverse of all American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. The design featured here was created by Adolph A. Weinman and comes with a vision of Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon rising over a mountain peak. Liberty has her right hand outstretched, her left hand carrying branches of oak and laurel, and the American flag draped over her shoulders and back.

Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States is found on the reverse side of 2002 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. In this design, the heraldic eagle is shown in front-facing relief with the US shield on its chest, an olive branch in one talon, and the arrows of war in one talon. The triangular cluster of 13 stars overhead represent the original colonies.

History

With 10.539 million coins sold in the 2002 American Eagle Silver Coin Series, mintage was up 1.5 million from the 2001 issue of the coins and hit the highest mark since 1987. It was just the second time mintage surpassed the 10 million mark and by the 20th anniversary in 2006, only three date marks would have done so.
