In 1996, Perth Mint launched the first-ever lunar-themed coin collection. The original series included all 12 years of the Zodiac. The Year of the Horse was the seventh design released in the original series. Each of the coins in this series has a 1 oz silver bullion counterpart as well. Obverse
The obverse of each 2002 Australian Lunar Horse 1 oz Gold Coin has the image of Queen Elizabeth II. She is featured in right-profile relief in a design created by Ian Rank-Broadley. This is the fourth-generation design of the Queens effigy, and it has been featured on coinage since 1998.
Reverse
The reverse image on each 2002 Australian Lunar Horse 1 oz Gold Coin is that of a powerful mustang. The horse is seen trotting in an open space. Around the horse, you will notice a beaded circle. History
