Proof-quality coins are some of the most sought-after items on the collectors’ market: prized for the kind of dazzling visual quality that multiple strikes and careful craftsmanship make possible. Provident Metals now offers such a coin for online purchase from the First Spouse Gold Coin program, the third release in a special program from the U.S. Mint celebrating the spouses of American Presidents — or in the case of single Presidents, Lady Liberty. The 2007-W Proof US Mint First Spouse Jefferson’s Liberty 1/2 Gold Coin is now available.

  • Delivered in attractive box packaging with the Certificate of Authenticity!
  • The third release in the U.S. Mint’s First Spouse Gold Coin program!

The 2007-W Proof US Mint First Spouse Jefferson’s Liberty Gold Coin is a showcase for the cameo effect of a proof-quality coin, featuring mirrored fields juxtaposed with frosted raised details. It ships in an attractive box package with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Obverse

The obverse field features Robert Scot’s distinctive bust of Lady Liberty as it appeared on the Draped Bust Half-Cent. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST – 2007,” and “3RD PRESIDENCY.”

Reverse

The reverse features Thomas Jefferson’s funeral monument as it appears on his estate at Monticello, overlaid with the epitaph that proclaimed his authoring of the Declaration of American Independence and the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and his founding of the University of Virginia. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” and “1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.”

History

The First Spouse Gold Coin Program was created to celebrate the personalities and contributions of the lifelong partners of the Oval Office’s history-making procession of inhabitants. The program was also designed, however, to include those Presidents who reached office without a spouse, as was the case with Thomas Jefferson, a widower for nineteen years when he first took office in 1801. Such figures appear in the program through their connection to Lady Liberty, represented by an image inspired by a coin issue during their term: in this case, the Draped Bust Half-Cent coin that was issued between 1800 and 1809, which sported graceful engravings by Robert Scot.
