The America the Beautiful Series of silver bullion coins focuses on presenting a different national park, monument, historical site, or other federally recognized and protected jurisdiction from each of the 50 states, five overseas territories, and Washington D.C. However, there is purpose in the design release schedule as each of the sites is presented on a coin in order of its adoption as federally protected land starting with the oldest and moving on to the youngest. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade level include minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.

The obverse face of 2010 ATB Grand Canyon 5 oz Silver Coins bears the image of President George Washington. Designed in 1932 by John Flanagan, this bust of President Washington was created to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth. It replaced the Standing Liberty design on the US quarter.

On the reverse side of 2010 ATB Grand Canyon 5 oz Silver Coins, you will find the depiction of Marble Canyon. Carved into the rock over millions of years by the Colorado River, Marble Canyon marks the start of the Grand Canyon and runs from Lees Ferry in northern Arizona to the confluence of the Little Colorado River.

The first effort to set aside land as a national park in the Grand Canyon started in 1882. Land was accumulated by the federal government starting in the 1890s with a protected region established in 1893. By 1919, Grand Canyon National Park had been established and now protects more than 1.2 million acres of land.
