62 miles east of the city of Portland lies the Mount Hood National Forest protected site. The park itself is 60 miles wide and preserves more than 1 million acres of land that includes dense forests, several rivers, a high lake basin, and the stratovolcano for which the park is named, Mount Hood.

This effigy was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for the US quarter. It replaced the Standing Liberty quarter design and has featured on the quarter since that time.
