Issued by the Perth Mint, the 2012 Australian Year of the Dragon silver coin contains oz. of .999 fine silver. With a face value of 50 cents, each coin arrives in an individual, plastic capsule.
The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the current monarch of Australia. After winning a competition in 1997, Rank-Broadley’s design has officially been featured on the obverse of a variety of British and Australian circulated coinage from 1998 to present-day. In addition to the queen’s profile, the words “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1/2 OZ. .999 SILVER,” and the date of mintage are engraved on the outer rim of the coin.
The reverse side features the Chinese dragon, an animal that symbolizes power, strength and good luck. According to the Chinese Zodiac system, 2012 represents the Year of the Dragon. The next celebration of the dragon will take place in 2024, as the zodiac system is a 12-year cycle. In addition, the symbol for dragon as well as the phrase “YEAR OF THE DRAGON” are also engraved.
The Year of the Dragon is one of the most popular designs produced by the Perth Mint. Supplies are limited, so get yours today through Provident Metals! Call us at (877) 429-8790 or use our secure online ordering system.
