In 2012, the United States Mint produced a two-coin American Eagle Silver Set to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the modern San Francisco Mint building. The set included a traditional Proof American Eagle Silver Coin and a Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver Coin, both of which were struck at the San Francisco Mint with S mint marks.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 2012-S Reverse Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin comes with a depiction of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, Walking Liberty originally appeared on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947. The inscriptions that feature on this side of the coin include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2012.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 2012 Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver Coin is an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Created initially in 1792, the heraldic eagle has been modified numerous times throughout American history. This version of the heraldic eagle was created in 1986 by John Mercanti. The design features an American eagle with the arrows of war and olive branch of peace, as well as the US heraldic shield and a triangular cluster of 13 stars. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read United States of America and 1 oz. Fine Silver – One Dollar.

History

The San Francisco Mint was the first US Mint branch facility to strike American Eagle Silver Coins. It issued the BU versions of the coin from 1986 to 1998 and the Proof versions from 1986 to 1992. The first American Eagle Silver Coins struck at the San Francisco Mint after these initial periods were a 2011 Burnished American Eagle and the two coins in the 2012 75th-anniversary set.

Ordering

Your 2012-S Reverse Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin is available in near-perfect condition. PF69 coins have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws.
