The U.S. Mint’s White Mountain National Forest America the Beautiful (ATB) 5 Oz silver coin is the first released in 2013 and 16th overall in the ATB 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin series. Each brilliant uncirculated coin is 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and can be yours today through Provident Metals.
A beautiful portrait of Mount Chocorua in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is displayed on the reverse. Birch trees outline the mountains and the inscriptions “WHITE MOUNTAIN,” NEW HAMPSHIRE,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and the issuing year surround the design.
Mt. Chocorua is the easternmost peak of Sandwich Range and sits at an elevation of 3,490 feet. Its picturesque view is among the most photographed and is popular among hikers. It is said to be named after a 18th Century Native American with legends saying he has various versions of a curse, but official records are unable to prove that.
George Washington’s well-known image is depicted on the obverse with the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” The inscriptions and denomination match those of the quarter.
The 2013 America the Beautiful series will feature four other coins honoring national parks and sites across the U.S. Each five ounce coin is inscribed with “.999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE” on its edge, which is different than the regular quarter’s reeded edge.

The coin is nice but I expected better quality coming from the US Mint.
I usually only buy currency silver coins. Maybe I was expecting too much.

This looks like a proof coin! Nice mirror finish in the entire 10-pack tube I bought. I was expecting a bullion coin struck with looks on par with an ordianary SAE that was merely uncirculated- not a top-notch numismatic quality coin. Thus I’m pleasantly surprised and quite happy with the purchase.

The bullion coins in this series just keep getting better and better–and cheaper, too! The 2012 5oz bullion were trending between $165-$170 just a few months ago. These large coins will not disappoint–and at an appealing price! The US Mint had plenty of leisure time earlier this year to strike these way before they needed to be sold–and the care of the coiner’s art shows. Both of the coins I received are deep mirror proof likes of which I’ve never seen before, the reverse die must have been changed or polished frequently. Will be looking forward to Perry’s Victory, and definitely be buying those right here at Provident! Thanks again, PM, for your fantastic service.
