Obverse
The inscriptions on the obverse of the coins include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2014. The obverse image is a 1964 portrait of JFK. The left-facing image was created from a profile meant to be used on the presidential medal. Gilroy Roberts used the profile to create the effigy for this coin the year after the tragic assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Reverse
The inscriptions on the reverse include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, which is inscribed in small letters on the ribbon flying above the heraldic eagle in the rendering of the Presidential seal. The depiction of the seal also includes the requisite arrows and olive branches in the eagle’s claws and a shield over the eagle’s breast. The eagle and symbols are surrounded by 50 stars.
