Highlights:
With your purchase of 2014-W 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar Gold Coins, you will receive coins packaged inside of protective plastic slabs. The coins come with a PR70 grade from the PCGS denoting a perfect specimen. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. DCAM designations mean the coins have strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2014-W 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar Gold Coins includes the left-profile bust of President John F. Kennedy. This design was modified from an earlier portrait created in 1962 by Gilroy Roberts for the Kennedy appreciation medal. The bust is accompanied by inscriptions of Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2014.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 2014-W 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar Gold Coin is a modified version of the presidential seal. Inspired by the heraldic eagle, it features the eagle with a ribbon reading E Pluribus Unum in its beak, United States of America above its head, and Half Dollar below. The coin includes the US national shield on the birds chest, olive branch of peace in one talon, and the arrows of war in the other.
History
The US silver half dollar coin debuted the new Kennedy design in 1964. This was the last year of 90% silver coining in the US for circulation coins. Kennedys bust and the modified presidential seal were created by Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro, respectively, in 1962 for Kennedys presidential appreciation medal. Roberts served as the 9th Chief Engraver of the United States from 1948 to 1964, and was succeeded after retiring by Gasparro who served as the 10th Chief Engraver from 1965 to 1981.
