This portrait was fashioned by Gilroy Roberts, who, in 1964, was the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1964-2014.

Reverse

Frank Gasparro, an Assistant Engraver at the US Mint, crafted a modified version of the Presidential Seal for the reverse design of the 2014-W Gold Half Dollar. The design is heavily inspired by the heraldic eagle. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, W, 3/4 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD, and HALF DOLLAR.

History
