One of the most visible coin collections from the New Zealand Mint, the Niue Hawksbill Series has grown since its 2014 transition from the Fiji Taku to the Niue Hawksbill. Since that time, common weights available include 1/2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz silver in addition to the original 1 oz silver coin. A 2 oz coin is often issued as well in this series. Right now, you can buy 2016 $5 New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle 2 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
With your purchase of the 2016 $5 New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle 2 oz Silver Coin comes a coin in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins in this listing are available for individual purchase or in lots of multiples coins. Individual coins all come with a protective plastic flip. Multiples will ship to you in either tubes of 10 coins or boxes of 200 coins. The boxes contain a total of 20 individual tubes.
On the obverse side of the 2016 New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle 2 oz Silver Coin is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen from the Royal Mint of England and was designed for the sovereign British mint in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. This portrait of the Queen has been widely used by the Royal Mint of England, as well as the Perth Mint of Western Australia, the Royal Australian Mint, and the New Zealand Mint for use on Commonwealth coinage in the South Pacific region.
The reverse field of the 2016 New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle Silver Coin comes with the same design that has featured on the series, in part, since 2010. When the collection debuted, the series featured the ornate shell of the hawksbill turtle in a field with matte finishes and bubbles meant to reflect the churning waters of the South Pacific. The only difference between the original Fiji Taku and the Niue Hawksbill is in the inscription in the sliver-moon slice on the design rocker. The Fijian version read Taku in this field, while these coins read Turtle.
From 2010 to 2013, the Niue Hawksbill was issued by the New Zealand Mint as the Fiji Taku. That series used the same obverse, but included the native Fijian word for the species in the title as Taku. Since 2014, the series has been the Niue Hawksbill.
