Obverse

For the obverse design element of the 2016 Proof Somalia Elephant Hologram Platinum Coin Set, each coin has the official coat of arms for the Somali Republic. The crowned shield has a background field of horizontal lines with a single star set in the center of the shield. It is flanked on either side by leopards with crossed fern leaves and spears below. Inscriptions on this face include Somali Republic, 2016, and the face value of each individual coin.

Reverse

In the reverse field of the 2016 Proof Somalia Elephant Hologram Platinum Coin is a depiction of the African bush elephant putting on an aggressive display of its size. The elephant has its ears flopped out to its side and trunk raised as its tusks point forward. This design is exclusive to each of the 2016 Somalia Elephant Coins regardless of metal type. The body of the African bush elephant is covered with a beautiful hologram visual effect for a unique finish.

History

The Bavarian State Mint has issued the African Wildlife Series Elephant coins since 1999. From 1999 to 2003, the series was known as the Zambia Elephant collection. In 2004, the mint shifted the series to the Somalia Elephant Series.
