Reverse

The reverse side of 2017 American Eagle Platinum Coins includes the Thomas D. Rogers design of an American bald eagle. The eagle is shown here flying over the nation as the sun rises in the background behind it. This design has accompanied the Liberty image from the obverse on all issues of the bullion version of the American Eagle Platinum coin.

History

American Eagle Platinum coins were introduced in 1997 with four weights available in both bullion and proof. In 2008, coining of all fractional-ounce coins halted and the 1 oz bullion coin was also suspended for several years. It was issued in 2014 and returned for good in 2016, just in time for the 20^th anniversary in 2017.
