Obverse
On the obverse face of all 2017 Armenian Noahs Ark Silver Coins is an image of the national coat of arms. The national shield is supported on the sides by an eagle on the left and a lion on the right. The quartered shield has a second smaller shield at its center that has a depiction of the ark as it rests on top of Mount Ararat. The nation of issue is inscribed twice on this side of the coin, once in English and once in Armenian. You will also find the face value on this side of the coin.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2017 Armenian Noahs Ark 1/4 oz Silver Coins includes a depiction of Noahs ark from the Book of Genesis. God chose Noah and his family to survive the devastation of the flood because they were virtuous people. For 40 days and 40 nights, the family survived in the ark with two of every kind of animal as rains washed the Earth of human sin. In this design, we find the world as it emerges from the devastation. Noah has sent out a dove in search of dry land and it is returning to the ark with an olive branch in its beak, proof that it found land.
History
The Armenian Noahs Ark Series debuted in 2011 with this 1/4 oz silver coin, a 1/2 oz silver coin, and a 1 oz silver coin. The series expanded after just one year to include additional weights of 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 Kilo, and 5 Kilo.
