The grey wolf, also known as canis lupus, is the largest canine species in North America. While at one point the range of the grey wolf spread throughout much of the northern United States and Canada, now only 30 percent of the grey wolf population in the world is found in Canada. More grey wolves live in the United States presently.

These coins also feature two unique security features. The first are radial lines that cover the coin. The second is a micro-engraved lasered maple leaf with a 17 on it to denote the year of issue.

Obverse

On the obverse of each of these coins, youll see the image of Queen Elizabeth II. She is shown in right-profile relief. This image was created in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. This design was released in 2004 on all Canadian coins.

Reverse

The reverse face of these coins showcases the image of a lone wolf sitting at the top of a rocky outcrop. Over the wolfs head, an over-sized moon is rising in the sky. The wolfs head is raised to release his loud howl into the night sky.

History

The Canadian Silver Grey Wolf Series featured the first-ever 3/4 oz bullion silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint when it was first released in 2015. Now, there are numerous other coins in this weight from the RCM.
