The Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver coin is one of the most popular in the world and the top silver coin in Europe. Introduced by the Austrian Mint in 2008, the series arrived nearly 20 years after the Austrian Philharmonic Gold coin, but wasted little time making its mark. The peak for the series remains 2011 when it sold 17.87 million coins. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase 2017 Colorized Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual plastic capsule!
  • 10th year of issue for the Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • The face value of 1.50 (Euros) is backed by Austria.
  • Great Pipe Organ from the Musikverein on the obverse.
  • Eight music instruments commonly used by members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on the reverse.
  • Designed by Thomas Pesendorfer.
  • Colorized elements on the reverse.

Austrian Philharmonic Coins now offer investors three different options. The series launched with the gold bullion coin and has expanded to several different gold weights. The 2008 issue year saw the introduction of these Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coins, while the 2016 issue saw the most recent expansion to the platinum bullion version of the coin. While proof coins are not struck in great numbers, colorized and gilded versions of the bullion coins offer a good collectible option.

Obverse

In the reverse design element, the Austrian Mint uses the Great Pipe Organ from the Musikverein as the primary design of the 2017 Colorized Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coin. The Musikverein, or Golden Concert Hall, is the location where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs its concerts for visitors to and residents of the Austrian capital city of Vienna.

Reverse

For the reverse design field, the Austrian Mint honors the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with eight different musical instruments on the 2017 Colorized Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coin. The design focuses on a cello in the foreground flanked on either side by two violins. The background field comes with the image of a bassoon, a harp, and a French horn. The brass instruments have their brass colorization, while the cello and violins have the true color of wood instruments.

History

Thomas Pesendorfer is the Chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint and designed both the reverse and obverse designs of the Austrian Philharmonic Series. His imagery is used on both sides of the gold, silver, and platinum bullion versions of the coins.
