The Miami tribe was known to have settled in large areas of the southern Great Lakes States, until they were largely forcibly resettled to what was known as the Indian Territory. Today, the Indian Territory is better known as Oklahoma.

The Miami Tribe of Oklahoma is actually is a federally recognized tribe of Miami Indians. These people are thought to have had some very early contact with some of the explorers and conquerors from the West.

The mink is related to the ferret, weasel, and the otter. A carnivorous and semiaquatic little mammal, the mink was once hunted for both its fur, which would keep tribe members warm during the cool damp months, and for its meat.
