All Proof Silver Eagles are made of one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and these graded coins come in a plastic slab. Encapsulating the coins preserves the condition as it was when it was graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS).
First Strike coins are those received by PCGS within the first 30 days of the mint’s release. The slab label features an American flag and the First Strike logo. You will also find text that reads “2017-W,” “$1,” “PCGS PR70DCAM,” and “SILVER EAGLE.” A grade of 70 indicates a coin that is in perfect condition.
The classic Lady Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman graces the obverse of this iconic coin. Walking toward a sunrise with her right arm outstretched, she symbolizes freedom with an American flag draped across her shoulders. In her left arm, she holds branches of laurel and oak. Inscriptions read “LIBERTY,” “2017,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
A heraldic eagle and shield design by John Mercanti is featured on the reverse. The eagle carries a banner in its beak that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and it carries arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” A “W” mint mark informs you that the coin was produced at the West Point Mint location.
The US Mint, created by the Coinage Act of 1792, produces all US legal tender bullion.
