These 2018 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins in this series ship with a protective plastic capsule from the Perth Mint. For multiples, the coins are housed inside of rolls of 20 or boxes of 100 coins that contain a total of five rolls.
Obverse
On the obverse, 2018 Australian Wedge Eagle Tail Eagle Silver Coins feature the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Depicted in right-profile relief, the Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. This is believed to be the Queens favorite tiara among her jewelry collection of crowns and tiaras. This artwork was completed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint and England and featured broadly on Australian coins from the Perth Mint from 1999 to 2018 and 2019.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2018 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins bears the image of a family of eagles. In this design, a small hatchling rests in the family nest on a large tree branch as a female eagle is perched nearby leaning toward the baby eagle. In the distance, a large male eagle is depicted swooping back in toward the family nest.
History
Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coins were released in 2014 by the Perth Mint. The series marks an international collaboration between the Perth Mint of Western Australia and John Mercanti, former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Mercanti designs the wedge tail eagle imagery on the reverse of the coins. To date, the series featured shared designs in 2014-2015 and 2016-2017. The 2018 and 2019 coins had fresh designs each year.
