The Royal Mint of England issued its own lunar-themed collection in 2014. Known as the Shengxiao Series, the lunar-themed series of coins offers 1 oz silver and gold bullion coins with distinctive designs. The fifth coin in this series was the British Lunar Year of the Dog coin. Today, you have the chance to purchase 2018 British Lunar Year of the Dog 1 oz Silver Coins from Provident Metals.
The British Lunar Series from the Royal Mint of England uses the Mandarin Chinese term for the Zodiac, Shengxiao, in the name of its collection. The British series focuses on offering only a 1 oz silver and 1 oz gold bullion option using 8 in the mintage figures for all releases on purpose. The number 8 is considered lucky in Chinese culture. Wuon-Gean Ho has been the artist for the series since it debuted in 2014.
On the obverse of 2018 British Lunar Year of the Dog 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find the fifth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Jody Clark in 2015, this image began appearing on British coins in 2016. In this right-profile portrait, Her Majesty wears the George IV State Diadem crown. This crown is worn during the State Opening of Parliament and was commissioned by King George IV in 1820. Created by Crown jewelers Rundle and Bridge, it features a stunning 1,333 diamonds.
The reverse of 2018 British Lunar Year of the Dog silver Coins bears the image of a terrier. The Queen is a fan of this particular breed herself and the terrier is one of the most popular breeds in Britain. Inscriptions include Year of the Dog, 2018, and 1 oz Fine Silver 999. There is also a Mandarin Chinese symbol for a dog in the design field.
All coins in the Shengxiao Series have distinctive elements on the obverse and reverse background fields. For example, the background on the reverse of these coins has a stylized field of grass the dog is running through. The background of the obverse has the Royal Mints guilloche element.
