The Silver Libertad’s obverse showcases Mexico’s national seal, featuring an eagle standing on a cactus carrying a snake in its beak. Above the seal, an inscription reads “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” Ten similar seals are positioned around the central seal, representing Mexico’s provinces.
The reverse features the Victory Angel standing between two volcanoes named Popocatepeti and Iztaccuhuati after a pair of lovers from pre-Columbian lore. Inscriptions include the weight, purity, and year of issue.
The National Mint of Mexico (also known as the Casa de Moneda de Mexico) was established in 1535 and remains the oldest mint in the Americas. The Libertad was first produced in 1982; it was based on the Centenario gold coin that was struck from 1921 to 1947. The Libertad’s original design incorporated Winged Victoria (or Victory), the Mexican angel of independence, holding a laurel wreath and a broken chain to commemorate Mexico’s freedom from Spain.

Fits perfectly in a Y65 airtite capsule. Satisfying heft. Larger size showcases the details. No 2018 kilo, so I was able to get one of each size for the business strikes this year. Had a hiccup with the original order, but Provident was professional and quick to correct the issue. Very happy with the purchase."

OK, I bought the 1oz and I got this 5oz too. It’s not twice the diameter, but the larger size really shows off the artwork you love on the 1oz Libertad. Given that it’s diameter is just under 65mm I’m not sure where I’ll find a capsule for it, but that’s next on my list and then I’ll order more.
