Winged Liberty is found on the obverse side of 2018-W Proof American Eagle Palladium Coins. This design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and features Liberty in left-profile relief. The design famously includes a winged Phrygian cap on the head of Liberty, a feature that resulted in Americans referring to the original coin as the Mercury Dime due to Libertys resemblance to the Roman messenger god of the same name. Inscriptions on this field include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 2018, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
An American bald eagle features on the reverse field of 2018-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Palladium Coins. This design also comes from Weinman, but was created in 1907 for the American Institute of Architects medal. The image features a bald eagle on a cliff edge as it clutches a small sapling with its talons and beak. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $25, and 1 OZ. History
The American Eagle Palladium Coin has been issued four times as of early 2021. The coins are available in a different version each year, to date. These include a 2017 BU coin, these 2018 Proof coins, a 2019 Reverse Proof coin, and a 2020 Burnished coin.
