Obverse

The obverse of the 2019 Australian Double Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile portrait of the Queen comes from Jody Clark and is the sixth-generation effigy to feature on Australian coins. It depicts the Queen with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head and includes her neckline and shoulders in a coin portrait in Australia for the first time since 1966.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2019 Australian Double Dragon Silver Coins, you will find a flaming pearl in the center of the design field that is pursued by two dragons. The flaming pearl is a popular symbol in Chinese art as it represents infinite wisdom. Depicting animals in pursuit of the flaming pearl symbolizes a desire for greater knowledge.

History

Dragons are much more benevolent creatures in Chinese culture than those of Western cultures. While European culture often viewed the dragon as a winged, fire-breathing creature who brought death and destruction, the Chinese view the dragon in opposite terms. Chinese depictions of dragons are similar to snakes. The wingless dragons have four to six legs, do not breathe fire, and have scales along the body. More importantly, dragons are symbols of good luck and it is even suggested in Chinese mythology that dragons formed the four major rivers of China.

Ordering

Australian Double Dragon coins are produced by the Perth Mint in Western Australia and feature P mint marks from the mint on the reverse field.
