Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of the 2019 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin in the latest sixth-generation portrait. Created by Jody Clark, this right-profile design shows the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. This is the first effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on Australian coins since 1966 to include her shoulders and neckline in the image.

Reverse

A wedge tail eagle soars in front of the sun on the reverse field of 2019 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This design captures the eagle with its wings spread to their maximum as its body blocks out the sun itself, while the rays of the sun extend to the edges of the design field.

History

Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coins are designed by John Mercanti. Mr. Mercantis career started at the United States Mint in the 1970s and culminated in his tenure as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010 when he retired. He has created the images of the wedge tail eagle on this face of the coin since its debut in 2014.
