The Queens Beast Series of coins recognizes the 10 mythical and heraldic beasts that have a historic role in the Royal Family, going back centuries. The Royal Arms of England is held up by two heraldic beasts. They include the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland. The Lion is reflective of the colorful and far-reaching history of the English Crown. The Unicorn of Scotland recognizes the union of the two crowns in the 18thcentury. 2019 British Queens Beast Unicorn 10 oz Silver Coin features the Unicorn of Scotland. The coin contains 10 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver and there are just a few certified coins available.
Highlights:
Your 2019 British Queens Beast Unicorn 10 oz Silver Coin has been certified by the NGC as being a near-perfect specimen. With a Mint State 69, this coin has its original mint luster and a maximum of two minor flaws detracting from its perfect state. At this grade level, the only flaws that are acceptable include hairlines or minuscule contact marks.
It was centuries ago when Scotland adopted the Unicorn as a heraldic animal. It is often thought that the idea of the unicorn came from the misidentification of other animals in the wild, including the rhinoceros or an antelope of some sort. The Unicorn of Scotland was introduced to the British arms when James VI of Scotland ascended to the throne in the 17th century and became James I of England.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2019 British Queens Beast Unicorn 10 oz Silver Coin depicts the fifth-generation portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth is the longest-reigning monarch in Englands history. This portrait was created in 2015, showing Her Majesty at 89.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2019 British Queens Beast Unicorn 10 oz Silver Coin features the image of the Unicorn of Scotland. The Unicorn was used by James VI of Scotland and came to the Royal Arms after he took the throne of England. The unicorn is shown supporting the shield of Scotland, which depicts a rampant lion. The shield has remained unchanged since the 13th-century when Alexander III reigned.
James VI united the crowns of Scotland and England after Queen Elizabeth I died without an heir to take the throne. This introduced the Unicorn of Scotland to the Royal Arms, and led to the creation of a design featuring the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland supporting the shield.
