Obverse

The obverse side of 2019 Somalia Elephant 1/50 oz Gold Coins includes a depiction of the national coat of arms for Somalia. The national emblem includes a crowned shield with a field of horizontal lines and a single star in the center. The use of a single star is akin the national flag for Somalia that bears a single white star on a field of light blue. Inscriptions include Somali Republic, 2019, and 20 Shillings.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 2019 Somalia Elephant 1/50 oz Gold Coin is an image of the African bush elephant. In the unique 2019 design, the bush elephant is shown flapping its ears out to its side as it raises its massive trunk. A body of water is shown in the background with the sun high in the sky overhead as a bird flies in front of it. Inscriptions here read African Wildlife, Elephant, and 1/50 oz Au 999.9.

History

African Wildlife Series Elephant Coins were produced by the Bavarian State Mint from 1999 to 2003 as the Zambia Elephant Series. Since 2004, the series has been issued as the Somalia Elephant instead and has grown extensively since 2016 when more weights were added to both the gold and silver programs and the platinum program was offered.
