Obverse

The obverse side of 2020 Gilded American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins features a depiction of Walking Liberty. The image of Walking Liberty captures her figure in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped over her shoulders. This side of the coin has the gilded layering applied.

On this side of the coin, you will notice a 24-karat gold layer on the image of Walking Liberty. This includes the American flag, the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand, and the sun rising over the mountain peak in the distance. The gold layer is also featured on the valley below and the date mark of 2020. Other inscriptions include Liberty and In God We Trust. These background elements and the inscriptions remain in pure silver.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 2020 Gilded American Eagle Silver Coins is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design here was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti to feature the powerful American bald eagle with the national shield on its chest, an olive branch of peace in one talon, and the arrows of war in the other. A triangular cluster of 13 stars is featured above. Inscriptions on this side read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum on the ribbon the eagle clutches in its beak, and 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar.

History

Colorized American Eagles and Gilded American Eagles, such as these silver coins, are not finished as such by the United States Mint. Authorized third-party dealers add the 24-karat gold layer to bullion versions of the coin to create special versions of the coin.
