2020 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in this listing earned the additional First Strike label from the Professional Coin Grading Service. The FS label indicates when the PCGS or an approved third-party depository received these coins for the grading process. First Strike refers to coins that arrived within the first 30 days of the original release date by the US Mint.

Obverse

Walking Liberty was designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for a US Mint and Treasury Department art contest. The goal of the contest was to find designs to replace the images of the Barber Coinage. Weinmans depiction of Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag over her shoulders was chosen as the design for the half dollar and originally used on the 50-cent piece from 1916 to 1947.

Reverse

From the moment the US Mint released its first denominations in 1794, the heraldic eagle has been on US currency. The heraldic eagle features the American bald eagle with the national heraldic shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the others. Above its head is a triangular cluster of 13 stars, one star for each of the rebellious colonies that successfully defeated Great Britain to form the United States of America.

History

American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available in these bullion versions each year from the United States Mint. Most are produced at the West Point Mint. When demand is high, the San Francisco Mint offers supplemental coining to assist in meeting demand.
