Obverse
The obverse side of the 2020 Armenian Noahs Ark 1/4 oz Gold Coin features the coat of arms for the Republic of Armenia. The national seal was adopted in April 1992 and replaced previous Soviet-inspired emblems. The seal incorporates heraldic beasts from ancient Armenian kingdoms, as well as Soviet-era emblems such as the central seal with Noahs ark on Mount Ararat. The shield is quartered with unique elements in each quadrant and is supported by an eagle on one side and a lion on the other. Inscriptions include the LEV rhombus logo of Geiger Edelmetalle, the weight, purity, and metal content of the coin, and the words Republic of Armenia in both English and Armenian.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2020 Armenian Noahs Ark 1/4 oz Gold Coins is a depiction of the ark constructed by Noah to survive Gods biblical flood. As told in the Book of Genesis, God sends torrential rains to Earth to cleanse the world of the sins of mankind. Noah and his family are chosen to survive, along with two of every animal species in the world. God gives him specific instructions to build an ark that will allow them to survive. The inscriptions on this side include only Noahs Ark in English and Armenian.
History
The Armenian Noahs Ark silver series debuted in 2011 with 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz coins, and grew to include 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 Kilo, and 5 Kilo coins in 2012. The 2020 debut of the gold series includes 1 Gram, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz gold coins.
