The kangaroo design theme is one of the most popular in the history of the Perth Mint. Previously used on the Copper Penny in Australia until the decimalization of the nations currency, the kangaroo has been the face of the longest-running gold bullion series from Perth since 1990. In 2016, it became the first-ever .9999 pure silver annual bullion coin from Perth, and in 2018 it gained a platinum bullion version as well. Right now, you can buy the 2020 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Platinum Coin online at Provident Metals.

On the obverse of the 2020 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Platinum Coin is a right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. The sixth-generation design to feature on Australian coins, this portrait of Her Majesty was created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England and modified in 2018 for eventual use on Australian coins. This is the first effigy of the Queen on an Australian coin since 1966 to include her neckline and shoulders.

The reverse of 2020 Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coins recreates one of the most famous coin designs in Australian history. Created by Stuart Devlin for the Australian Gold Kangaroo bullion coins, this image of a red kangaroo species leaping its way across the Outback in left-profile relief has been recreated countless times. Each recreation is based on the original Copper Penny design used in circulation in Australia up through the 1950s.

The kangaroo is one of three major marsupial species native to the Australian continent. The largest living marsupial, the kangaroo is easily recognizable with its long, powerful tail and thick, strong hind legs. There are four living subspecies of kangaroo today: red kangaroo, antilopine kangaroo, eastern grey kangaroo, and western grey kangaroo.
