Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins were first issued in 1989 and by 1990 it had become the best-selling gold coin on the European continent. That title continues to this day and the coin has even topped all other gold bullion coins in the world for sales volume on four separate occasions in its history. The series launched with 1 oz and 1/4 oz coins. These 1/10 oz gold coins were the first added to that, in 1991, followed by a 1/2 oz gold coin in 1994. The 1/25 oz coin was introduced recently in 2014.

Obverse

The Great Pipe Organ from the interior of the Musikverein is depicted on the obverse of the 2020 Austrian Philharmonic 1/10 oz Gold Coin. The Musikverein is also referred to as the Golden Concert Hall and hosts many of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras performances in Austria.

Reverse

For the reverse design field, 2020 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins showcase the instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In this particular design, the cello, four violins, a bassoon, a harp, and a French horn are depicted.

History

Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights were all introduced before the series even expanded to a silver coin in 2008. The 1/25 oz gold coin was introduced in 2014 as a 25th-anniversary celebratory release, but was so popular with investors it remains in the series as an annual coin now. In 2016, the Austrian Mint further expanded the program to include a platinum bullion coin.
