The national symbol of Barbados is the trident head. On the Barbados national flag, a field with three horizontal lines, you will find a trident head that is broken off the shaft of the longer weapon. That broken shaft represents the break of Barbados from the United Kingdom in 1966 when it gained independence.

Obverse

Barbados national coat of arms is featured on the obverse side of 2020 Barbados Trident 1 oz Silver Coins. The coat of arms for Barbados features the national tree and national flower on a shield. These include a single Fig Tree in the center and the Pride of Barbados flowers in the upper corners. Above the seal is a knights helmet with a hand reaching upward holding two sugar canes. The shield is supported by a dolphin fish and a pelican. Inscriptions include 2020, trident heads below the dates, Pride and Industry, and Barbados.

Reverse

A trident head is found on the reverse field of 2020 Barbados Trident Silver Coins. The symbol found on this side of the coin is the same that has been in use since 2017 when the program debuted. The 2020 release of the coin bears a new background field on this side that depicts the gentle ripples of a relatively calm body of water. The beaded edge around the design field includes inscriptions of .999 Fine Silver, One Dollar, and One Troy Ounce.

History

Barbados Trident Silver Coins debuted in 2017. The series has long used the same design elements on both sides with the background fields on the reverse the only changing element of the coins. The first release had wavy water lines, while the second issue featured rough seas with heavy rippling in the water. The third release featured wavy water lines in a swirling pattern, with calm ripples on the new 2020 issue.
