Obverse
The obverse field of the 2020 British Valiant 10 oz Silver Coin bears the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here at the age of 89 in a design created in 2015 by Jody Clark, the youngest artist to develop a monarch portrait for the mint. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem. This impressive crown was commissioned in the first year of George IVs reign and includes 1,333 diamonds with a staggering weight of 300 karats. The crown is traditionally worn only for the State Opening of Parliament.
Reverse

History
The iconography and tradition behind the story of St. George and the dragon predates Christianity and is believed to have its roots in the cavalry of Thrace and, later, the Roman Empire. While George died in the year 303 AD, versions of the story in which he slays a dragon to save a town and its young princess dont proliferate in Western society until the 11th century at the earliest. Western Christians brought the tale of St. George slaying a dragon back to Europe following the Third Crusades in the Middle East.
