Mexican Libertad Gold bullion coins debuted in 1981 from the Mexican Mint. This would have made the program the third-oldest among modern bullion coins, but it went on hiatus from 1982 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 1999. Since 2002, the Mexican Libertad Gold Coins have been issued by the Mexican Mint every year and the series boasts some of the lowest mintages you will find in a major gold bullion series. Provident Metals now offers you the chance to buy the 2020 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic flip or with tubes of 10 coins!
  • 31st release year for the Mexican Libertad Gold coin!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • Winged Victory appears on the obverse of the coins.
  • The Mexican coat of arms and 10 historical versions of that seal appear on the reverse of the coins.

The Mexican Mint first offered the Mexican Libertad Gold Coin in 1981 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz weights. However, the coins were initially offered only in 1981. Mexican Libertad Gold was again issued in 1991 with 1/10 and 1/20 oz coins added, but the coins only ran until 1994. All five weights were again issued in 2000, halted in 2001, and restarted for good in 2002.

Obverse

2020 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins feature the image of Winged Victory on the obverse. This symbol dates to the revolution of the 1810s and 1820s when Mexico sought independence from the colonial rule of Spain. Based on the Roman goddess Victoria, Winged Victory holds a wreath crown in one hand and a set of broken chains in the other.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2020 Mexican Libertad Gold Coins comes with the design of the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the center. The image featured here includes a Mexican golden eagle battling a serpent on the arm of a cactus. The emblem is surrounded by a wreath below and the inscription Estados Unidos Mexicanos above. Around the outer edge of the design field, there are 10 historical versions of the same emblem.

History

Mexican Libertad Gold Coins have very low mintage figures compared to other major gold bullion programs. The highest recorded mintage came in 1981 when the 1 oz coin sold 596,000 units. The next highest for the 1 oz coin was in 1991 when 109,193 coins were sold. Recent figures are a fraction of that with the 2018 coin selling just 2,050 units.
